Controlled Medication Prescribing Policy
For patient safety and regulatory compliance, prescribing of Schedule 8 medications, including psychostimulants, is managed carefully.
Please note:
All prescriptions including S8 medications will only be issued during a consultation. They will not be provided outside an appointment.
Lost or stolen medication will not be replaced unless a police report has been filed.
Unless there is a formal shared-care arrangement in place, controlled medications must only be prescribed by one prescriber. If prescriptions are obtained elsewhere, this may affect ongoing prescribing and may result in care being transferred.
You may be asked to provide a urine sample for drug testing. This may occur randomly or if clinical concerns arise.
S8 medications have minimum dispensing intervals. Early release is only considered for a valid reason, such as travel. This requires your prescriber to contact your pharmacy directly and complete regulatory checks, including QScript. An administration fee of $30 + GST applies.
Many countries have strict rules about travelling with psychostimulant medication. Please check the requirements of your destination before travelling overseas. Domestic travel within Australia is generally not an issue. If a travel letter or medication import application is required, an administration fee of $30 + GST applies.
Reports for employers, lawyers, education providers, NDIS, insurers or other third parties are billed according to complexity and time required. Please send report requests to admin@drmaxwellwellness.com.au for review. Reports are completed within 48 hours in most cases.
