Dr James Maxwell is a Specialist GP with experience managing ADHD in adults.
Recent legislative changes in Queensland (effective December 2025) now allow qualified GPs with advanced training to diagnose and manage ADHD without requiring referral to a psychiatrist, making care significantly more accessible and affordable for Queensland residents.
Dr Maxwell provides a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment that considers all contributing factors, associated conditions, and risks. You’ll receive a detailed clinical report, clear treatment recommendations, and a holistic management plan from diagnosis through ongoing care.

Have an Established ADHD Diagnosis?
Dr Maxwell can provide ongoing care for adults with a confirmed ADHD diagnosis from a paediatrician or psychiatrist where a treatment plan has been commenced.
This 40-minute consultation focuses on medication review, symptom monitoring, and continuity of care, following Australian prescribing and safety standards. Specialist letter required.
Have had a Full Diagnostic Assessment for ADHD with a Registered Clinical Psychologist?
You are still able to undertake formal diagnosis through the Established ADHD Pathway however due to the need to medically formalise the diagnosis a follow-up appointment may be required before treatment can be initiated.

Due to interstate legislative restrictions, this service is currently only available to Queensland residents, and the assessment must be completed in person.
